The Brown laboratory is located on the traditional and ancestral territories of the Səlílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nations within the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHRI). We are grateful for the opportunity to work and learn here.
BCCHRI is the largest research institute of its kind in Western Canada and is a Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies Centre of Excellence. It sits on the 46-acre campus of the BCCH, which is Canada’s largest full-service child health centre, and is ~12 km from the main campus of the University of British Columbia.

The Brown Lab values diversity in experience, culture, and knowledge. We strive to recruit, include, and support people with diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences. Please read our equity and inclusion statement. If you are interested in research on pediatric rheumatic diseases, we would love to hear from you. We have opportunities for new trainees, as well as experienced researchers and medical fellows.
Important Notes:
Because we routinely work with irreplaceable and potentially biohazardous clinical samples (such as blood, urine, and saliva), we generally require undergraduate students to have previous bench experience outside their coursework.
If you are interested in pursuing graduate studies, please first contact the UBC Dept of Microbiology & Immunology or the Women+ and Children’s Health Sciences Program and complete an application prior to contacting our team.
